Who Really Cares about Workplace Safety?

Workshop Session, Tuesday, November 28th, 9:00am – 11:30am
Rooms: 208

Other than safety folks and OSHA, nobody is proactively looking for more safety training, better safety systems or a safer working environment—even though they should be.

CFOs should care—safety pays big dividends to the bottom line. Plant Managers should care because an injured worker hurts more than the company's safety record—it affects costs, team dynamics, quality and productivity. CEOs should get it, because a focus on safety can change the entire culture and every KPI. Even the individual, whose life is on the line in risky situations every day, often has little concern for their own safety.

So, how do you get people to actually care about safety? You have to appeal to each person's own agenda. What do they care about and how does safety relate to the things most important to them?

Key Takeaways:

This session highlights common challenges and demonstrates to safety leaders the things that will make safety a priority for everyone—from company stakeholders to front-line workers, including:

  • how a common language and common purpose can get buy-in, commitment, and engagement from all levels of the organization
  • why people need to connect the safety dots to their personal life, off-the-job, in order for them to work on being safer at work
  • how a 24/7 safety skillset that reduces safety errors can be applied to also improve quality and production
